WIN a garden for your school

In partnership with Coinros Nurseries and in the run up to Compost Awareness Week (1-7 May), we are inviting all Forest of Dean primary schools to take part in our competition to design a garden; the winning school will then have their design recreated in their grounds as a permanent display for all to enjoy.

Spring gardenEntries are welcome from individual pupils, small groups or from a whole class and should include instructions about how your garden works. The design could be for a previously untended area in your grounds or alternatively why not encourage your pupils to think about revamping an existing part of your garden? As well as plants and shrubs, designs can include extra elements such as hard landscaping, garden furniture and wildlife habitats – the choice is yours!

Entries can be either 2D or 3D (no larger than A2 please) and will be judged on three main criteria: overall design, bio-diversity and sustainability.

Please note the scale of the final garden should measure no more than 3 x 4 metres.

As part of the competition, we will also be giving away copies of RHS Grow It, Eat it and RHS Wildlife Garden to those pupils submitting the winning design and as runner up prizes; published by Dorling and Kindersley these beautifully illustrated books are packed full of fun and simple gardening projects, perfect for children of primary school age.

Please send your designs to: Marsha Llewellyn, Environmental Promotions Officer, Forest of Dean District Council, Council Offices, High Street, Coleford, Gloucestershire GL16 8HG by no later than Wednesday 25 May 2011. Please remember to include your school name, pupil/group/class name and year group.

Last year’s competition was won by Pillowell School, who received a greenhouse and potting table. We would like to thank all schools that entered and hope that this year we can encourage even more of you to take part!
