Tours at the tip!
Children are being invited for guided tours around the Household Recycling Centre during the Easter break.
More than 66% of waste at all five Household Recycling Centres is either recycled or composted.
So where does all the waste go and what exactly happens to it? Children can find out by attending one of the guided tours planned during the forthcoming school holidays.
Cllr Stan Waddington, cabinet member for environment and waste, said: "For safety reasons, we ask parents visiting the Household Recycling Centre, not to allow their children to get out of their car.
"From next month, we will have posters up at each site highlighting the importance of this.
"However, we understand that many youngsters are very interested in recycling and composting, which is why we have organised these guided tours especially for them, which I think they will find very interesting."
The council already runs an extensive waste education programme, which involves an officer visiting schools throughout the county and promoting the 3Rs message – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Two guided tours are planned at the following Household Recycling Centres next month:-
Hempsted, Gloucester – April 12th from 3pm – 4pm
Wingmoor Farm, near Bishops Cleeve - April 21st from 9.30am – 10.30am
The tours, which are strictly by appointment only, are for children seven years old and over.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. To book a place email the council's Waste Education Officer Hannah Gray, hannah.gray@gloucestershire.gov.uk or contact her by phone on 01452 425872.
Book early to avoid disappointment.
