Too Much On Your Plate?
Cheltenham pupils met Mabel Mouse, Scratch the Rat and Myth Buster Moth in a performance which toured 23 primary schools in the district from 21st February to 4th March. 'Too much on your plate?' was written by the RfG Schools team to promote the new kerbside food waste recycling collections in the Cheltenham Borough.
The play, which reached approximately 5800 children and their teachers, showed the damaging effects of burying food in landfill and introduced the children to their new food waste caddies. There was plenty of audience participation including a song with actions to help children remember the key messages. Giant food items (creating by reusing scrap materials) formed an exciting backdrop.
Feedback from teachers and pupils has been overwhelmingly positive with schools saying that the performance communicated an important message in a fun way.
'Great performance with a clear message. Thank you'.
'Actors very professional – children enjoyed the show'.
'The actors made it fun but got their message across'.
'It was all good – the humour and song reinforced the message about using the food caddies'.
'One of the best plays I've ever seen!' (Child's comment)
'It was a great way to reinforce the messages about recycling and the new food waste service and I'm sure they got the message'.
'Our school has learnt loads!' (Child's comment)
